Hey DJ lovers!!!
Music is my everything. That is what music is what music lovers would say to you. When words cannot express how I feel at times music is there to guide me through it all. Now with all that said, would it not be super amazing to experience this live with the people who understand "your" music?
LIVING THE MUSIC, LOVING THE DJ
This is where Dj's come in. A Dj is a disc jockey, that being a person who plays recorded music for an audience, originally "disc".
The title Dj is commonly used by Dj's in front of their real names or adopted pseudonyms as a title to denote their profession. Dj's play a huge role in the entertainment industry, but is the media platform given to them enough to sustain maximum exposure.
One needs to bear in mind that everything you do, you have to start from the bottom, build yourself up and become a well known, but with the many upcoming Dj's it is very difficult to do that without a mentor.

DJ BLACK COFFEE
Take Dj black coffee for instance, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, he has been in the South African music industry for over 10 years. I 2003 he was chosen as one of two South African participants in the Red Bull music academy, which jump started his career in the SA music Dj scene. He did not become a world icon over night, he pushed himself and now with a great team behinh him he is recognized as one of the top Dj's in South Africa.
UPCOMING DJ'S
There are many clueless upcoming talented Dj's out there who need to step into the music industry, but does the media cater for these young talented upcoming Dj's?
MEDIA AS A COMMUNICATION PLATFORM
The media does not give coverage to the "unknown", but they also fail to give out information on such opportunities as the Red Bull music academy which Dj Black Coffee was part of. Before you become a professional in the work place you get training, why can't the media do that for young ones who aspire to become "big" well branded names like Dj Black Coffee in the future?
YOUR OPINION
Do you think that there is enough information given from the media about recognized Dj schools or do you think it is the responsibility of the upcoming Dj's to seek their own?

In some way, if u interested in something, it's your own duty to go out there and seek information for yourself (get your lazy behind up) even though it will be much more interesting if there was a marketing force from the media to give enough information but well there's not so much.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, if you are passionate about something you will do everything in your power to make sure that you succeed.
DeleteWhile.... im not sure and beside I don't agree with some things she mentioned That Dj's are not given a enough platform, because some people even if they give dat platform they won't expand- they and more concern with fame.
ReplyDeleteBut don't you think that if that platform was given to them then that would be a footstep in the right direction. You cannot go out there and try to make it big if you don't have all the right resources.
DeleteMost DJs are self taught it starts of as a hobby and their passion drives them... I for one haven't heard or seen an advert that has to do with formal DJing education (that doesn't sound right but you get me right)
ReplyDeleteWhich proves my point exactly that the media is not doing their jobs as gatekeepers in keeping their audiences informed on such opportunities, passion can only get you so far you need the help of profeesionals.
DeletePR can play a huge role in dj's events and also local and up-coming producers, for instance first we have to know about dj's events (gigs) and their productions which need a PRP to inform the public through social media and blog's like yours. The media have many plattforms that DJ's can market themselves all they need is a good marketing strategy which is unique and attention grabbing!
ReplyDeleteSo what you are saying is that the problem lies with the marketers and the media in itself... good point you made about Dj's needing a public relations practitioner, because that is our job.
DeleteDJ is a hobby if you have interest on it you have to teach yourself and also market yourself because there are many opportunity out there and seek encourage from known dj's so that you can enable to pursue or meet objectives.
ReplyDeleteJust like any other "important" job, Djing is a profession and it might start off as a hobby but to many it is a dream job, so yes if you do want to succeed I agree with you, one should seek encouragement from known Dj's
DeleteI do not think it is the responsibility of the media to publicise DJ schools. The responsibility rests with the advertisers, marketers and PR practitioners to advertise and market the school.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good point, these Dj academies need to publicise themselves to a certain degree and make sure that that are known of.
DeleteFor the upcoming Djs they really need good PR strategies t expand their brand. It does not matter how good you are in a club around town but if you want to get your product out there...then a good PR team by your side is what you need.
ReplyDeleteYes and you should be willing to spend the money because a good product costs money, but in the end it would have been worth it, I agree with you zee
DeleteI think upcoming DJ`s should get out of their comfort zone and push hard for their careers to succeed and I also think that the few DJ academies we have in our country should market themselves well and take advantage of the fact that they are very few
ReplyDeletegood point, there aren't many Dj academies so that few that do exist should grab this opportunity with both hands and take advantage of this situation.
DeleteVery true ,Dj's need to be familiarized with PR so they can stop relying on companies to brand them ,they can brand themselves if they good enough ,they can use PR strategies to build their fan base and transform their dreams into a well known brand.
ReplyDeletewell said...if only they could understand that and also the importance of having a prp.
DeleteDj's should market themselves and create a hype around their music and career, it is not the institution responsibility to put dj's in the "lime light"... If that were the case everyone would want to be a dj, knowing very well they are not talented
ReplyDeletetrue, it first starts with having the talent then you deciding if you want to pursue the career or not, knowing that it is up to you to make it work and not the responsibility of the institution.
Deleteyes, we live in a world where wen you want something you must work hard to strive for it. i love music also, it heals nd is my friend. thats how powerful music is
ReplyDeleteThe power of music shall live on and when words cant express how you feel music does.
Deleteget your lazy ass up and be what you want to be.
ReplyDeletea bit harsh but yeah I suppose if you really do want something you have to work hard in making sure that you achieve your goal and we cant blame the media for not informing us.
DeleteDJs should market themselves and showcase their talents to gain exposure. The media will be there to help but the DJs cant be relaxing waiting for media to do everything.
ReplyDeleteyes, the media as our gatekeepers.
Deletetrue the media should be there as our gatekeepers and inform us but it is not their responsibility to make sure that we get the information and actually do something about it.
ReplyDeleteyes couldnt have said it better mysef.
ReplyDeleteDj's pave their way to climb the step ladder to be known and also their are not given that platform or assitance of some sort. And also I think it goes with the culture of being a "Dance jockey"
ReplyDeletetrue I agree with you David.
Deletevery intresting and informative hey
ReplyDeleteThanx penelope.
DeleteWell personally, I do not think that the is enough information about recognised D.J academy's in the media, because personally I didn't know that Black Coffee start in 2003. However I believe that if you are interested or maybe part of the industry, you are bound to know about the D.J schools.
